Toxic Ramen

Posted by tata on Sunday Jan 25, 2009 Under Food

Poor Americans (such as myself) have long been sustained by the greatness of Ramen noodles. My brother, Big Rob, taught me years ago how to make it stretch a little farther: by adding egg. Here’s how to make Toxic Ramen.*

Get yourself some packs of Ramen noodles at your local grocer. They cost around $0.10-$0.20 per package and come in a variety of flavors. I like Beef.

If desired, crunch up noodles while still in packaging. Open and remove seasoning packets. Boil the noodles.

When the noodles are done, drain.

Return to pot, but not to heat just yet.

Crack in two eggs.

Now add those seasoning packets.

Return to heat and stir vigorously…

Keep stirring until the egg is thoroughly cooked. It should look something like this.

Devour! Grilled cheese optional.

*These directions call for 2 packages of Ramen noodles. For one package, add one egg instead of two.

Making a meal stretch further is quite a skill…egg is always useful to have in the house…

I like the Swedish way of always having a fresh side salad with every main meal. The salad add colours to the table, is crunchy and can be varied as required.

This will be a quick meal to make sometime. Thank you for sharing the recipe and the pics you took at the different stages of preparation are great.

I never cared for the Ramen Noodles much, but thinking outside the box as your brother did, may change my mind. I will pick some up at the grocery and give this dish a try.

I used to do something similar with pasta - cook it the put in an egg-or-two and let the heat of the pasta cook that, quick and tasty.

This was before I was voted ‘most likely to have a heart attack’ in a small but tasteful ceremony in my home town.

My best tip for yours would be to only use half of the packet that comes with the noodles. There’s enough of that stuff - mono-glutamen-sodomite or whateverthe hell they call it - to kill a horse. :)

Haha… you actually took pics of the process, I love it! I prefer chicken or oriental and I eat mine like a soup with all the broth in it… Doesn’t your seasoning packet need dilution?? It seems like it would be salty… and are you sure the eggs cook all the way?

I believe you that it tastes good, but I can’t picture it… I have not purchased Ramen Noodles in forever… I may now have to do this and take pics just for you.

You’re funny … Add grilled cheese, please.
