The Day-After Party

Embarrassed Joy Joy turned 10 on Wednesday, but her party was on Saturday at the park. Some of the neighborhood kids came, my brother and his youngest (who is precisely 3 weeks younger than Joy), my mom, and Sonnie and her gang.

She was embarrassed when we sang “Happy Birthday” in very loud voices so that the entire playground heard.

There aren’t many pictures of her that I can post since she is surrounded by a number of other children in most of them and I didn’t ask their parents permission to post their kids, so I’m posting what I can.

Sonnie & BuddhaMy mom gave Sonnie all sorts of grief about knitting a dishcloth. She kept poking fun that one can purchase 10 dishcloths at the Dollar Store for $1 and that knitting one seems like a great waste of time, energy and money. Sonnie was a great sport and took mom’s taunting like a champ.

tata knitsMeanwhile, Big Rob just poked fun that I have “knitting buddies” at all. I made faces at him in retaliation. See if he gets any Cthulhu-related knits!Bi Rob & tata

I still like him alright, I guess. There were these role-players across the way and when Big Rob said he liked watching them fight, I made fun of him in return.

Mom & Buddha Mom hung out with Buddha most of the day. I prefer not to think about the sorts of verboten foods and drinks she was very likely sneaking him. I Hubby&BigRob got a much-needed break and for that, I am grateful. I got to knit a bit, but mostly had to hand out plates of hot dogs and cake to the kids. I was also very busy and anxious about keeping the drone of bees away.

Niece & Big Rob

It was a pretty good time. Joy got some nice (albeit undeserved!) gifts and enjoyed hanging out with her friends and cousin at the park. It was fun introducing my new friend Sonnie to my mom and brother. Husband made my hot dogs crunchy-burnt just the way I like ‘em and we got a lot of fun pictures. I’d call that a success, wouldn’t you?!

Happy Birthday to my baby girl!

It was a perfect day for a party. I think she may spend much of her teen years embarrassed.
