The Day-After Party

Posted by tata on Monday Oct 6, 2008 Under Events, Food, Kids and Family, Trials

Embarrassed Joy Joy turned 10 on Wednesday, but her party was on Saturday at the park. Some of the neighborhood kids came, my brother and his youngest (who is precisely 3 weeks younger than Joy), my mom, and Sonnie and her gang.

She was embarrassed when we sang “Happy Birthday” in very loud voices so that the entire playground heard.

There aren’t many pictures of her that I can post since she is surrounded by a number of other children in most of them and I didn’t ask their parents permission to post their kids, so I’m posting what I can.

Party at the Possum

Posted by tata on Monday Oct 6, 2008 Under Knit Night

HBDGP1 Anne & I Last week, the knit night at Grinny Possum changed to the first Friday of the month since the holidays are coming up. It worked out well, though, since it was the 4th Birthday of Grinny Possum! We got together last Friday night for a lot of knitting fun and to celebrate.

HBDGP4 HBDGP2 I must admit, I am humbled that Grinny Possum has been open for 4 years and I am just now discovering the joy and wonder that is this amazing place. I am so happy I found it and adopted myself into the family!

There was food and wine and - best of all - excellent company.

HBDGP6 HBDGP5I continue to be impressed by the generosity and kindness of knitters I’ve met. I am so happy to have new friends among these wonderful folks.

We laughed so hard, too! Sonnie had us rolling with a great story or two of her own.

HBDGP7HBDGP8 Even caught a shot of Grinny Possum himself! On my first ever trip to Grinny Possum, I asked Anne how she ever came up with the name. She said a family friend called her husband that. I wasn’t satisfied by the answer until I met him myself. This shot does no justice.

HBDGP9HBDGP11 Samagchestlah is so close to completing her sweater! She models it here. It looks pretty farkin’ great. Good job, girl!

Happy Birthday, Grinny Possum!

Joy’s Tenth!

Posted by tata on Wednesday Oct 1, 2008 Under Kids and Family, Trials

Reach!Happy Birthday Cake Can you believe I have no pictures of Joy as a baby on the computer?! When she was really tiny, we didn’t have a digital camera. I lost a nauseating amount of images of her when a transformer down the street that powered my computer randomly exploded one sunny afternoon several years ago. If you learn nothing else from reading my blog, I sincerely hope you take me for my word at this: back up your images!!!

At around 2pm, September 30, 1998, my water broke. At first I thought my already-questionable bladder had completely failed me, but I quickly realized that wasn’t the case. No one ever tells you that when your water breaks, it isn’t just a gush. It does not stop trickling! I called xSO at work to let him know and excitedly paced the house, calling people. After three and a half hours and still no labor pain, we headed to the hospital and yes, I drove.

I’m Too Sexy for This Busted-Up Knee

Posted by tata on Wednesday Sep 24, 2008 Under Uncategorized

bustedkneeOMG it farkin’ hurts! I swear the picture does it no justice whatsoever. It is angry red and swollen.

I’m embarrassed that I’m still falling like a clutzy kid at my age, but I was under an enormous amount of stress yesterday. I can forgive me.

Please contact me for my address, I will gladly take your unused painkillers off your hands! Sheese, but it was killing me today all slathered up with triple antibiotic cream and gauzed up (so’s not to rub against the inside of my jeans).

At least I’m having a good hair day. I haven’t taken pictures of myself in a grip. Behold - I am beautiful like me!

Beautiful Like MeWeird LightThe lighting in our house was weird this afternoon. All these were taken in our living room with no flash.

Sometimes it still takes me a moment to recognize the fact that I’m not a blonde. I haven’t been a blonde since I was a tot, but I’ve always thought of myself as one, and of course, dyed my hair accordingly a number of times, as well.

And it took forever, but I’m finally in a place where I appreciate my locks. Okay, most days I appreciate them. The part I want to complain about loudest is that to get my hair to look like it does in these pictures, I must at least get it soaking wet, combed and tatatata smirksscrunched. No climbing-out-of-bed-and-going for me, unless I’m in one of those (very frequent) moods wherein I don’t care if it looks like rats dwell in my scalp. In that case, I just tie it back.

You can click these to make ‘em bigger. Go on, enjoy my beauty to the fullest!

Treasures

Posted by tata on Wednesday Sep 3, 2008 Under Crafts, Events

Yesterday was nearly as bad as Monday. Left at home with the baby for the first time in weeks while trying to balance the chemistry in my brain was frustrating to say the least. Buddha was having one of those Nothing-Will-Make-Me-Happy days. By the time Husband got home from work, I was ready to clock off.

I nearly decided not to go to knit night but I wanted to escape the baby so badly… Needless to say, I wasn’t sorry I went. I really cannot overstate how wonderful these gals are and how positively just meeting them has impacted my life. They have brought so much into my life - knowledge, joy, friendship and a real sense of sisterhood. They are the kindest and most generous group of ladies I’ve known in a very long time. One of the ladies that has trouble getting out on Tuesdays due to work called Sonnie’s phone to talk to me about my meds and gave me some resources to look into. How farkin’ sweet is that!?

Grinny Possum

Posted by tata on Friday Aug 29, 2008 Under Knit Night

Today, my friend P and I hung out for the first time (I swear it is the very first time ever) sans children while also being sober. We have such a hard time collaborating our schedules to hook up. She’s on vacation this week, though and promised to kick it with me, even if just for a bit.

She called last night and we planned to check out one of the local yarn stores (LYS) since she wants me to knit her a pair of socks. We also intended on getting coffee and perusing the nearby Goodwill.

We head out to the LYS. It was delicious in there! So many yummy yarns to touch and I wanted to take them all home. The air in there was a bit stiff, however, and I got a couple of sideways glances from the lady running the place ’cause I just had to touch everything. P held back and I looked at her with sheer befuddlement: “Why aren’t you touching?!”

Afterwards, we went to Java, a little coffee shop just next door. The owner was super friendly and made a damn fine mocha latte. I was disappointed that I couldn’t smoke on the patio, though. I quickly drained my mug and we decided to hit the other yarn store across the bridge in Indiana. We had such a hard time deciding on yarn. Plus, earlier this week, Sonnie sent me an email invite to the Knit Night at the LYS where she works part-time, complete with 20% coupon for yarn. We didn’t have the coupon with us, but I planned to attend the Knit Night later and this way, we could make a more informed decision about yarn for socks.

The word about town is that Grinny Possum is the place to go for all one’s yarn needs because it just the best place.

Well, that is not entirely true…
