I’m trying to reconcile some inner conflicts.
Namely my love of hip-hop/rap music with my loathing of the N-word and my feminist tendencies. Also, my ability to accept ear-piercing on infant/toddler girls but not boys.
Seriously, WTF are those things all about?!
I have spent many hours discussing these issues with friends and generally reflecting on them, but I cannot find a way to understand it. I give myself some credit for my honesty regarding these issues and at least trying to understand the paradox.
Embrace your inner hypocrite. What are your issues?

I wore purple today in honor and memory of those who have lost their lives.
I wore purple today to support LBGT youth.
I am so pleased that we have organizations like HRC and GLAAD to help bring an end to anti-gay bullying through legislation and by promoting awareness and education. It is so important for us as a community to tolerate our differences, if not embrace them. This small gesture is one way I was (happily) able to help. I stand with you, enthusiastic about showing my support.
It gets better.

You were created to love and be loved. In support of Depression Awareness, we wrote love on our arms.

As I’ve mentioned before, I love to read blogs. In all honesty, I think it is satiating the need to read books, which I haven’t been able to do since the baby was born. I loathe being interrupted and well, babies don’t much give a damn about that.
So as I was reading today, I was inspired by a couple of my fellow bloggers to count my blessings. First by Jaime, whose blog is primarily about her premature daughter, Molly. Her post today was especially inspiring to me. I encourage you to check it out. Next, I was inspired by Anna, who posted that she was having a generally bad day, until she decided to be positive.
That said, I’m going to count my own blessings and share them with you.
- My family is healthy.
- We have everything we need. We aren’t hungry or cold or homeless.
- I am married to the love of my life and we have a great relationship.
- Husband is driven and ambitious. I love that about him. School is going very well for him.
- I have plans for this weekend that include hanging out with my friend P and my mom.
- The baby slept great last night and during today’s nap. He’s being good so far today, too.
- I am learning to knit and have a pretty decent supply of yarn. And with my golden birthday coming up soon, I’m certain I’ll be able to indulge my yarn lust!
- We are having Thanksgiving tonight. Sure, football isn’t on, but it will be soon!
Huh. We are having Thanksgiving tonight. How appropriate! Life is good. Photos sure to follow.
