The Day-After Party

Posted by tata on Monday Oct 6, 2008 Under Events, Food, Kids and Family, Trials

Embarrassed Joy Joy turned 10 on Wednesday, but her party was on Saturday at the park. Some of the neighborhood kids came, my brother and his youngest (who is precisely 3 weeks younger than Joy), my mom, and Sonnie and her gang.

She was embarrassed when we sang “Happy Birthday” in very loud voices so that the entire playground heard.

There aren’t many pictures of her that I can post since she is surrounded by a number of other children in most of them and I didn’t ask their parents permission to post their kids, so I’m posting what I can.

Joy’s Tenth!

Posted by tata on Wednesday Oct 1, 2008 Under Kids and Family, Trials

Reach!Happy Birthday Cake Can you believe I have no pictures of Joy as a baby on the computer?! When she was really tiny, we didn’t have a digital camera. I lost a nauseating amount of images of her when a transformer down the street that powered my computer randomly exploded one sunny afternoon several years ago. If you learn nothing else from reading my blog, I sincerely hope you take me for my word at this: back up your images!!!

At around 2pm, September 30, 1998, my water broke. At first I thought my already-questionable bladder had completely failed me, but I quickly realized that wasn’t the case. No one ever tells you that when your water breaks, it isn’t just a gush. It does not stop trickling! I called xSO at work to let him know and excitedly paced the house, calling people. After three and a half hours and still no labor pain, we headed to the hospital and yes, I drove.

Treasures

Posted by tata on Wednesday Sep 3, 2008 Under Crafts, Events

Yesterday was nearly as bad as Monday. Left at home with the baby for the first time in weeks while trying to balance the chemistry in my brain was frustrating to say the least. Buddha was having one of those Nothing-Will-Make-Me-Happy days. By the time Husband got home from work, I was ready to clock off.

I nearly decided not to go to knit night but I wanted to escape the baby so badly… Needless to say, I wasn’t sorry I went. I really cannot overstate how wonderful these gals are and how positively just meeting them has impacted my life. They have brought so much into my life - knowledge, joy, friendship and a real sense of sisterhood. They are the kindest and most generous group of ladies I’ve known in a very long time. One of the ladies that has trouble getting out on Tuesdays due to work called Sonnie’s phone to talk to me about my meds and gave me some resources to look into. How farkin’ sweet is that!?

Suspicious

Posted by tata on Sunday Aug 31, 2008 Under Events

Early this afternoon, Joy called from Sonnie’s house and when I answered, did not wish me a Happy Birthday or even say “hello.” She asked to speak with Husband, who then disappeared into our bedroom. I took a shower, nursed the baby (who then fell asleep) and eventually left to head to Sonnie’s. Husband was behaving very suspiciously. I asked him repeatedly what he was up to. He grinned and said “Nothing.”

Mmm-hmmm.

When we arrived, he quickly dashed into the front door (which is not the door they typically use, mind you), leaving me outside to carry the boy and about a hundred bags (since I can’t go to Sonnie’s without all of my WIPs [works in progress]). I got Buddha out of the carseat and Husband suddenly reappeared, trying to take him from me. “No, no,” I said. “I’ve got him, you get everything else.”

I went to the proper door, where I was greeted by a sign and a Lei. “Put this on.” It stated.

Okay then.

I knocked and was told to come in.

The kids and Sonnie leapt from behind the kitchen counter, shouting “SURPRISE!” while Sonnie’s husband wielded our camcorder. They had decorated, set the table complete with hand-written menus and sang The Birthday song to me. They even made chocolate cake (my favorite!). It was really, really sweet.

The rest of the afternoon, I helped Sonnie organize her yarn, knitted a bit, browsed Sonnie’s knitting books and just enjoyed the company of our new friends (who feel very much like people we’ve known forever).

I had a really good time, despite the rowdy kids, the arguing boys, and being over-tired myself.

It was a really great birthday. Thank you so much, y’all. heart

It’s my Golden Birthday!

Posted by tata on Sunday Aug 31, 2008 Under Events

I’m 31 years old today. It’s my Golden Birthday.

I’m still very child-like about my birthday. It’s my day. I ought to be showered with attention and not allowed to be burdened with chores and/or work. I should be pampered, waited on hand and foot and, for good measure, I should wake up looking fabulous!

Yeah, so it’s not realistic, but it’s still the way I imagine it ought to be.

In any case, it is also BlogDay2008. I’m ill-prepared to make the post just yet, but I wanted to let my readers know that I plan to do so later today. I will likely also post about today’s events - hopefully complete with pictures. If you are participating in BlogDay2008, I invite you to leave me a comment (remember - I Follow!) with the URL to your post - I’d love to read it!

Wish lists

Posted by tata on Monday Aug 4, 2008 Under Crafts, Uncategorized
This year on August 31, I will be celebrating my Golden Birthday. I’m turning 31.

Every year, people ask me about what I want and every year, I feel totally unprepared and clueless about what I want. Well not this year! My yarn lust has prompted me to add favorites on Etsy.com and update my Amazon.com wish list. I’ve also got my eyes on a really great needle set over at Knitpicks.com.

My Amazon.com Wish List

So if you are at a loss for what to get me, fret no more - you can find the wish lists on their own page, accessible on the Wish Lists tab! Thanks! :)
