Holy High Winds
Posted by tata on Tuesday Sep 16, 2008 Under TrialsOn Sunday, there were seriously high winds here. Our power went out at around 1pm and still isn’t back yet. I was trying to watch football, dammit! And I had several posts planned out after my most recent one, complete with adorable Buddha videos. Not to mention that I had a still-wet load of laundry that just went into the dryer and a just-started load that went into the washer. GAH!
We were able to borrow a little generator from my mom yesterday so most of our cold food was saved. There isn’t much electricity generated for much else besides the fridge and upright freezer, but Husband finagled to get his laptop online for brief intervals. If we unplug everything else, we can brew a pot of coffee. We were neighborly, too, and charged several cell phones for folks.
LG&E (our local electric company) figures it will be 14 days before full recovery of power. I hope like hell it doesn’t take that long. I’m actually quite content without computer, internet or television - I’ve kept busy with knitting. It’s the not having lights part that bums me out. I can’t knit in the dark - not even with Husband’s head lamp. It’s too cumbersome for a n00b like me.
I just wanted to update my readers with our current situation and let everyone know that I’ll be back posting just as soon as humanly possible. I’m not crazy about using strange computers to blog - it means I hafta post from inside WordPress’s software as opposed to Windows Live Writer and that I have no access to my pictures, links and other goodies. There are other, new happenings that I desperately need the therapy of writing about, as well, so I hope to see you all again very soon!
